The design brief

We all know that design briefs vary from studio to studio, job to job and client to client.

A good design brief will help the student understand the process and see that design is much more than doing 'pretty pictures'.

At some stage during their work experience it would be good to show the student a good brief. Explain the difference between a brief and a reverse brief and if possible show them one of each. Take them through each element of the brief and explain who does what in the studio and their part of the brief. If possible show them the concept development, presentation pieces and the client feedback.

If you are preparing a reverse brief give them a chance to get involved in areas such as market research and brainstorming.

The Buddy book has more information on the brief and a structure for the work experience.
